OUR CONDOLENCES
to Martha Theodile on the death of her son, Marcus Laurent. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. May our Lord Jesus take them to the glory of his Kingdom and give Martha and family comfort and peace. The funeral will be here at St. Joseph on Thursday, January 12, at 9:00 a.m. viewing and 10:00 a.m.

THE MONTHLY
prayer vigil against abortion will take place on Tuesday, January 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Beeston Hill where the fifteen decades of the Rosary together with the Prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel will be prayed. All are invited.
KEYS AND SWORD AWARD BENEFIT.
The Third Annual Keys and Sword Award Benefit will be on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase (at $150.00 per person of which $90.00 is tax deductible). The Three KingsMelchior, Gaspar and Baltasar; Three Wise Men out of the East were there; and they travelled by night and they slept by day, for their guide was a beautiful, wonderful star. The star was so beautiful, large and clear, that all the other stars of the sky became a white mist in the atmosphere. And by this, they knew that the coming was near of the Prince foretold in the prophecy.
Three caskets they bore on their saddle-bows, three caskets of gold with golden keys; their robes were of crimson silk with rows of bells and pomegranates and furbelows, their turbans like blossoming almond-trees.
And so the Three Kings rode into the West. The Three Kings rode through the gate and the guard through the silent street till their horses turned and neighed as they entered the great inn-yard. But the windows were closed, and the doors were barred, and only a light in the stable burned. And cradled there in the scented hay in the air made sweet by the breath of kine, the little child in the manger lay. The child, that would be king one day of a kingdom not human, but divine.
His mother Mary of Nazareth sat watching beside his place of rest, watching the even flow of his breath. For the joy of life and the terror of death were mingled together in her breast. They laid their offerings at his feet: The gold was their tribute to a King. The frankincense, with its odor sweet, was for the Priest, the Paraclete. The myrrh for the body's burying.

THE MAGI
The visit of the Magi occurs directly before the story of the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt. Matthew’s Gospel tells a version of Jesus’ birth that is different than the one in Luke. Of the actual birth of Jesus, Matthew tells us little more than, "When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod . . . " The story of the census is found only in Luke’s Gospel, but we hear about the visit of the Magi only in Matthew’s Gospel.We know little about the Magi. They come from the East and journeyed to Bethlehem, following an astrological sign, so we believe them to be astrologers. We assume that there were three Magi based upon the naming of their three gifts. The Gospel does not say how many Magi paid homage to Jesus. In Matthew’s Gospel, they represent the Gentiles’ search for a savior. Because the Magi represent the entire world, they also represent our search for Jesus.
We have come to consider the gifts they bring as a foreshadowing of Jesus’ role in salvation. We believe the meaning of the gifts to be Christological. Gold is presented as representative of Jesus’ kingship. Frankincense is a symbol of his divinity because priests burned the substance in the Temple. Myrrh, which was used to prepare the dead for burial, is offered in anticipation of Jesus’ death.
The word Epiphany means "manifestation" or "showing forth." Historically several moments in Christ’s early life and ministry have been celebrated as "epiphanies," including his birth in Bethlehem, the visit of the Magi, his baptism by John, and his first miracle at Cana.

Dear Jesus, as You led the Three Kings to You by the light of a star, please draw us ever closer to You by the light of Faith. Help us to desire You as ardently as they did. Give us the grace to overcome all the obstacles that keep us far from You. May we, like them, have something to give You when we appear before You. Mary, Our Mother, help us to know Your Son. Amen.

CARTA ESPECIAL A LOS REYES MAGOSQueridos Reyes Magos:
Todos los años, cuando llegan estas fechas, mi pensamiento se vuelve hacia vosotros. Y, junto con el pensamiento, mi corazón va dictando una serie de deseos que, con vuestra ayuda, quisiera los llevaseis a feliz realidad.
Dejad en el mundo UNA ESCOBA. Para barrer todo lo que suene a violencia y terrorismo. Que no quede ni un solo rincón en las personas con resquicio de rencor o de odio. Traed, y abundantemente JABON. Para limpiar nuestras personas de aquello que, la sociedad, va imponiendo como normal y lógico.
Echad, en los ojos de todos los hombres y mujeres, COLIRIUM. Para que, los unos a los otros, lejos de vernos como adversarios, sepamos contemplarnos y respetarnos como hermanos. Esconded, debajo de las almohadas de los que os esperan, SUEÑOS. Nunca, como hoy, tenemos abundancia de bienes para vivir y, nunca como hoy, hemos perdido los ideales por los que luchar.
En un rincón del corazón de las personas, derramad toneladas de AZÚCAR. Las prisas, los agobios, los trabajos, el afán de superación, nos está convirtiendo en autómatas. Escasamente nos miramos a los ojos. ¡Necesitamos un poco de dulzura!
Si, en vuestros almacenes existen, solicitamos que nos proporcionéis unas LIMAS. Cada día que pasa, y por diversas circunstancias, los tropiezos, las dificultades, los roces, hacen que nos distanciemos y que se acrecienten las diferencias. ¡Necesitamos suavizar las discrepancias!
Traednos unas grandes TIJERAS. Para cortar todo aquello que no es positivo en nosotros. Para confeccionar un traje con la etiqueta del amor, con los botones de la esperanza y de la caridad. ¡Ayudadnos a vestir con el traje de la Fe!
Que vuestros pajes, aunque tal vez piensen que no ocupa nada, que nos transporten un poco de ALEGRIA. Es un bien muy escaso. Es tan invisible que, en el mundo donde vivimos, no lo percibimos. ¡La necesitamos para volver a sonreir!
Todos los años, os dejamos en el balcón o en la ventana, nuestro calzado. En el presente año dejadnos unos ZAPATOS CELESTIALES. De tal manera que, al colocarlos en nuestros pies, caminemos por las sendas de la verdad, de la justicia y del perdón. ¿Tendréis mi número?
Si además añaden un ABRELATAS para abrir nuestro corazón a Dios y un IMPERMEABLE para protegernos de las tormentas que descargan contra nuestras convicciones religiosas, os quedaré -como si fuera un niño- altamente agradecido.

El camino de los Magos
El camino de los Reyes Magos es camino de esperanza. Apoyados en la moción interior de la luz, salen al encuentro del Niño, de Jesucristo, de Dios. Es un camino lleno de dificultades. Herodes trata de impedir el encuentro. Planea eliminar al Niño. La estrella, sale de nuevo al encuentro de los Magos y los conduce hasta el Portal de Belén para adorar al Niño y presentarle sus ofrendas...
Nuestro camino. Nosotros hemos recibido la luz interior de la gracia y del conocimiento de Cristo. Hemos de ponernos en camino hasta el encuentro definitivo con el Señor. Nos encontramos con dificultades: la inconstancia de la voluntad, la debilidad ante las ocasiones de pecado, el asedio de las ideologías adversas...
La Luz de Dios sale de nuevo a nuestro encuentro y nos marca el camino. Cristo, en la Iglesia, nos ofrece los medios para reencontrar el camino verdadero. Cristo nos ofrece el sacramento de la Reconciliación que nos libera de la oscuridad del pecado personal; la Eucaristía que nos alimenta y fortalece para el camino; el Catecismo para la recta formación de la conciencia; los Mandamientos que nos marcan el recto comportamiento; la oración perseverante para impetrar los auxilios que necesitamos...
Adoremos al Señor. Los "magos entraron en la casa, vieron al niño con María, su madre, y cayendo de rodilla lo adoraron". Acudamos a Belén con los Magos para adorar a Cristo y hacerle nuestra ofrenda. Ofrecemos el oro de nuestra vida renovada por la gracia; la mirra del sacrificio y de la valentía que exige la vida cristiana; y el incienso, el buen olor del testimonio de nuestra fe.

Hemos venido a adorarte desde los confines del mundo...No sabemos bien de qué manera una señal vista en Oriente
ha conducido nuestros pasos hacia el nacimiento de Tu Luz...

Mira en estas riquezas, a aquellos que no saben que Tú los amas…
María podrá contarte que con nosotros, después de los pastores.
Todo el universo se ha reunido bajo Tu Estrella…
Pequeño Rey del cielo, Nuestro gran Rey, el Emmanuel,
hemos atravesado Tu Israel.
Y de ese modo allí, volver a nacer…
