HOLY HOUR.
The members of the Sacred Heart Society will have their Holy Hour this Sunday, November 6th at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Michael chapel.
BOOK OF LIFE.
In the entrance of the church we have the "Book of Life" where you can write the names of your loved ones who have departed this year. We will pray for them at every Mass during the month of November.
FUN DAY.
St. Joseph Church will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Dedication of our new church with a Fun Day on Sunday, November 20th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please come and be part of this joyful celebration.
OUR SECOND COLLECTION
next weekend November 12-13, will be for the electricity and maintenance of the church. Thank you for your generosity.
THANKSGIVING BASKETS.
We are approaching Thanksgiving Day. Once again we appeal to your generosity for the families in need. We are asking you to bring food items specially turkeys and canned food. Please bring them to the rectory before Tuesday, November 22nd. Thank you.
THE ST. PATRICK’S ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
is sponsoring a golf tournament on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Carambola Golf Club St. Croix. This activity would take the place of the recognition dinner that is usually held in the fall. The cost is $150.00 per player, Junior players 17 and under $75.00. The format is four person scramble and prizes includes longest drive man and women closest to the pin men & women. The package includes breakfast, tournament play, golf cart, goody bag, awards banquet, music and prizes. Anyone who would like to support this activity may contact Anastacia Doward 772-4018 or Julia Pankey 772-3042 for additional information. The proceeds will be donated to St. Patrick’s School.
The Church’s Instruction On The Feast Of All Souls
What is All Souls’ Day?
It is the day set apart by the Catholic Church for the special devout commemoration of all those souls who have departed this life in the grace and friendship of God, for whom we pray, that they may soon be released by God from the prison of purgatory.
What is purgatory?
(Purgatory is a middle state of souls, suffering for a time on account of their sins. St. Paul writes to the Corinthians: And the fire shall try every man’s work, of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide, which he have built there upon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work burn, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. ( in. Cor. in. 13-15.) "And when St. Paul," says St. Ambrose (Serm. 20. in Ps. cxviii.) "says, yet so as by fire, he shows that such a man indeed becomes happy, having suffered the punishment of fire, but not, like the wicked, continually tormented in eternal fire." St. Paul’s words, then, can only be understood to refer to the fire of purification, as the infallible Church has always explained them.
For what, how much, and for how long must -we suffer in purgatory?
Concerning this the Church has made no decision, though much has been written by the Fathers of the Church on the subject. Concerning the severity of the punishment in purgatory, St. Augustine writes: "This fire is more painful than any that man can suffer in this life." This should urge us to continual sanctification and atonement, so that we may escape the fearful judgment of God.
How can -we aid the suffering souls in purgatory?
St. Augustine writes: "It is not to be doubted that we can aid the souls of the departed by the prayers of the Church, by the holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and by the alms which we offer for them." The Church has always taught-that prayers for the faithful departed are useful and good, and she has always offered Masses for them.

LIBRO DE LA VIDA (BOOK OF LIFE).
En la entrada de la Iglesia tenemos el Libro de la Vida (Book of Life) donde pueden escribir antes de la misa los nombres de sus seres queridos difuntos que han fallecido durante este año. Estaremos rezando por ellos en todas las misas durante el mes de noviembre.
MISA DE LA PROVIDENCIA.
El sábado 19 de noviembre es la fiesta de Ntra. Sra. de la Divina Providencia, patrona de Puerto Rico, y la estaremos celebrando con una misa de vigilia, el viernes 18 de noviembre a las 6:30 p.m. Todos están invitados a venir y juntos celebrar ese día tan especial para los puertorriqueños. Despúes de la misa tendremos un compartir.
DÍA DE DIVERSIÓN.
La iglesia de San José estará celebrando el décimo aniversario de la dedicación de nuestra nueva iglesia el domingo 20 de noviembre, comenzando después de la misa de las 10:00 a.m. hasta las 5:00 p.m. Más adelante les diremos que necesitas traer para compartir.
SEGUNDA COLECtA.
El próximo domingo 13 de noviembre tendremos nuestra segunda colecta mensual para la electricidad y el mantenimiento de la Iglesia. Les agredecemos mucho su continuo apoyo.
CANASTAS DE ACCIÓN DE GRACIAS.
Nos acercamos al Día de Acción de Gracias y nuevamente apelamos a su generosidad para las familias necesitadas. Les pedimos que traigan árticulos de comida, especialmente pavos y comida enlatada. Favor de traerlos a la rectoría antes del martes 22 de noviembre. Gracias.
¿Estamos moralmente obligados a rogar por las animas benditas?
Siempre estamos obligados a amar y ayudar al otro, pero cuanto mayor es la necesidad de nuestro prójimo, mayor y mas estricta es nuestra obligación. No es un favor que podemos o no hacer, es nuestro deber; debemos ayudarnos unos a otros.
Sería un monstruoso crimen, por caso, rehusar al poder y desposeído el alimento necesario para mantenerse vivo. Sería espantoso rehusar la ayuda a alguien en una gran necesidad, pasar de largo y no extender la mano para salvar a un hombre que se está hundiendo. No solamente debemos ayudar cuando es fácil y conveniente, sino que debemos hacer cualquier sacrificio para socorrer a nuestro hermano en dificultades.
Ahora, qué puede estar más urgido de caridad que las almas del Purgatorio? Qué hambre o sed o sufrimiento en esta Tierra puede compararse con sus mas terribles sufrimientos? Ni el pobre, ni el enfermo, ni el sufriente que vemos a nuestro alrededor necesitan de tal urgente socorro. Aún encontramos gente de buen corazón que se interesa en los sufrientes de esta vida, pero, escasamente encontramos a gente que trabaja por las Almas del Purgatorio!
Y ¿quién puede necesitarnos más? Entre ellos, además, pueden estar nuestras madres, nuestros padres, amigos y seres queridos.
Dios desea que las ayudemos
Ellas son los amigos más queridos. El desea ayudarlos; El desea mucho tenerlos cerca de Él en el Cielo. Ellas nunca más lo ofenderán, y están destinadas a estar con Él por toda la Eternidad. Verdad, la Justicia de Dios demanda expiación por los pecados, pero por una asombrosa dispensación de Su Providencia El pone en nuestras manos la posibilidad de asistirlos, El nos da el poder de aliviarlas y aún de liberarlas. Nada le place más a Dios que les ayudemos. El está tan agradecido como si le ayudáramos a El.
Nuestra Señora quiere que los ayudemos
Nunca, nunca una madre de esta tierra amó tan tiernamente a sus hijos fallecidos, nunca nadie consuela como María busca consolar sus sufrientes niños en el Purgatorio, y tenerlos con Ella en el Cielo. Le daremos gran regocijo cada vez que llevamos fuera del Purgatorio a un alma.
